Bob Steilberg's open email about Popasmoke concerns.

Listen up,

There's been some confusion about what we have to do to be able to attend the Orlando reunion:

1.  Do I have to be a member of Pop A Smoke to attend?
NO! You don't need to be a member of Pop A Smoke to attend the reunion. You don't need to be a member to get the reduced reunion rooms or parking rates. When making your room reservations advise the reservationist that you're with the Pop A Smoke reunion group and you'll get the reduced rates. Non-reunion parking is $5 to self park ($10 valet) vs. $19. (If you make your room reservations as a reunion attendee, when you check in your reduced parking rate will automatically be encoded in your room key, according to the person I spoke with at the hotel this morning.)

2.  Do I have to stay in the Marriott?
No. Stay anywhere you want. The JW Marriott will be where the check-in desks and vendors are: You'll pick up your registration package (which includes tickets for any events/meals you signed up for) at the check-in desk area.

3.  Is a spouse or guest also required to pay $55 for a "Registration Package"?
I'm still waiting to hear from a Pop A Smoke heavy for official word, but my best guess right now is "NO". I'll update you as soon as I hear back from Pop A Smoke. In the meantime, I'd suggest not opting for the second registration package when sending in your form; I'm sure you can always add that if you need to.

4.  Do I have to attend the Friday night squadron banquet?
No, but that's the best opportunity to sit down with old buddies and share memories. Not everyone will be participating in the various 364-only events anchored at our hospitality suite, so Friday night might be the only time we're all in the same place at the same time.

5.  Do I have to attend the Saturday night banquet?
No. That's not a mandatory event. It's a lot of fun and you have the opportunity to meet guys you may have gone through Memphis with, or served with in other squadrons, but attendance isn't required. Some folks get together with a small group of buddies and have a more intimate (and quieter) dinner Saturday night.
