Silver Wings and Dangerous Things
By Cpl. Martin L. Edwards

Just a line to let you know,
Straight to hell, here I go.
Joined the Marines to be a man,
Here I am in Vietnam

Seeing things really strange,
Reminds me of the rifle range.
Load your weapon, pick up brass,
If you miss its your ass.

No slack here, not today,
That's what most old "Salts" say,
Death's my friend, been here awhile,
Just like to go out in style.

Fight all day and most the night,
Don't know who's wrong or care who's right.
Another man hardly ever seen,
Does his best to kill this Marine.

But this I know, and know for sure,
A dose of death is his only cure.
A warrior's path is full of plight,
Eat, shit, hope and fight.

Here today and gone tomorrow,
Leaving only comrades and sorrow.
For men who fly upon angry air,
These last words, I now share.

Approaching LZ, oh sir please don't tarry,
Time spent here causes game to be scary.
Big old target and no damn cover,
Go down quick, please don't hover.

Look down my "fifty", man my gun,
Yearn to fire, kill every mother's son.
We will not stop until it's won, that's clear,
Death is upon us but we show no fear.

So now mister pilot, if you can hear,
Get it up high, stay steady and straight,
And another tomorrow we shall make.
Thank you God, last mission today,
Back to Marble Mtn., with ten KIA.

That's the way it is!
