Cpl. Ernesto "Gooie" Gomez's Internment
Arlington National Cemetery

On November 26, 2007 Gooie received a full military funeral conducted by the Marines from Marine Barracks 8th & I.  From across this nation 70 plus individuals gathered to pay their last respects.  In addition to Gooie's family there were, numerous Vietnam veterans that Gooie had served with from HMM-364 and HMM-262, two men repre- senting Colonel Dabney's Warriors of Hill 881S, two active duty Marines who had served with HMM-364 during Operation Iraqi Freedom, the photographer who captured the essence of Hill 881S, a representative of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and a contingent of the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Club.

The pall bearers have lifted the casket up rendering the "Warrior's Salute".  Had they not been beneath the tent, they would have lifted the casket over their heads. Marines are selected for their ability to heft the casket that high.  Not all internments within Arlington National Cemetery are offered the "Warrior's Salute."  Gooie certainly deserved one.

Gooie as we shall always remember him.
