CWO2 Samuel V. Hooten

CWO2 Samuel Victor Hooten was attached to HMM 364 during the Vietnam war. I do not know just exactly which year he joined or was separated from it.  He was retired after 23 years of active duty on June 30, 1971.  After working as a Census Enumerator, and for H&R Block, he received a Bachelors Degree in Social work, and was employed for more than five years at the Methodist Children's Home in Waco, TX. in the outpatient department.  After he retired from that work, he was active in the Hillcrest Community Hospice Program in Waco.  He died of a Heart Attack on July 15, 1996.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, eight children, 25 grandchildren, and after his death, several great-grandchildren.  Up to the time of his death, he was a Marine through and through, saying (not an original quote) --"You can take the man out of the Marines, but you can't take the Marines out of the man."

Thank you for remembering this fine outfit, and the men who served with it.
Beatrice L. Hooten (Mrs. Samuel V. Hooten)
